Entry 20

Some weeks ago I heard about a girl who had committed suicide because she wanted to marry a boy whom she loved a lot, but her dad had forced her to marry one of her suitors and the girl could not have borne it and had decided to get rid of her bitter life...
Some time later I heard about another girl who had planned to continue her studies, but her father didn't let her do it ...
About a month ago my friend & I were talking with two girls... they were surprised when they heard that there are lots of girls who marry at the age of about 27 or more ... one of them said, " ... in our city if a girl has not been married at the age of 20, everybody will think it's become late and she won't have any choice for marriage... " ; then she told us that she had been a veryyyyyy smart , clever and hard-working girl at school who liked to continue her studies, but she had been forced to get married and stop studying...
One of our main and most serious problems which causes lots of problems in families is that the majority of people in some cities, towns and remote villages are still under the influence of the old, illogical and sometimes destructive traditions and habits... and the situation is worse for the girls & women...
These people are afraid of changing these traditions and being a little creative in their thoughts & decisions...
Living with these traditions has made the life for most of people and families hard and sometimes intolerable ...
Some of these traditions seem not to be so much destructive, but I do believe they prevent us from making progress, thinking creatively and making a new, modern and healthy culture in our own lives as well as our society ...

Guess it'll take generations for the old ways to die out completely. More's the pity

What do you mean "exactly" by traditions the word you have overused here in the vaguest way.

Hi Mohammad...Thanks a lot for reading my weblog......What I mean by "traditions" is whatever has prevented one's growth and making her/himself in the way she/he likes, as an example the father in one of the cities in our country (Iran) who doesn't let his daughter continue her studies is doing that according to this tradition or custom that a girl must not study or work in the society... she must remain idle in her family until the time that a suitor(and again not one whom she loves) rings the bell of her house , chooses her and takes her to HIS house ... Every day we see lots of families who are suffering from something they haven't chosen themselves , but their custom & traditions in that society has trained them to do that way ... As another example I can say the ceremonies which are held for one's wedding ... A family may not be able to afford a ceremony( a formal party ) for her daughter or her son , but because it has been a custom in that society , the parents and also the son or daughter don't dare to say "I don't want a ceremony for my wedding", because we can't afford it ;the boy or the girl who is getting married thinks how he/ she can say to the whole society (the relatives or friends ) that she/he has decided not to do according to this custom...The family prefers to sell whatever it has so that it can hold the wedding ceremony ...
