Entry 69

Every time I see Saddam in the court, my mind becomes completely occupied by what he has done & what the court of justice should decide for him ...



I believe strongly in the laws of the human rights like the one which says that we should treat everyone kindly & sensibly ...
I also believe strongly in their not accepting " retaliation " ... but when it comes to cases like Saddam, I think there is no other choice except " retaliation " in the sense that doing with the guilty person exactly what he has done to others ...
In Farsi we call it " Ghesaas " ...
But why do I believe in " retaliation " or " Ghesaas " for cases like Saddam? , because I think :
1) The guilty person must feel exactly what he has done to others
2) The other cruel & oppressive people in the world should see what has happened to the guilty people like them, maybe this lessens their oppression & cruelty ...
By the way, I know that less than 1% of them may be affected by this, and the sensible way to prevent them from their oppression is teaching them psycologically not to oppress others at all, but I think this is something that needs a long time and by the time it becomes effective, many people in the world will have been tormented & will have lost their lives ...

Without commenting on the issue of retributive justice (the Arabic Ghesaas)I would like to say that neither of your two reasons for it are persuasive.
1- There is no way in the world to retaliate against Saddam. No matter what you do to him you can only kill him once whereas he has killed a million people. No matter how you kill him you will be cheated!
2- There is no evidence to prove that other dictators are dissuaded by what happens to one of them. Until such proof is produced your conjecture that it works is only a hypothesis.

I'm glad that one of my reasons can be considered even as a hypothesis ...
I believe in what you say that whatever is done to Saddam, can only kill him once whereas he has killed a million people ... I also do believe that it's not been proved yet that it'll have any effect on other dictators in the world, but consider the other side of the matter, if there is no retaliation against Saddam or other oppressors, don't they & others feel that they are allowed to do whatever they want to in the world without being punished ?
I know that the most reasonable way for not commiting such crimes is making them aware of the psychological consequences of theses crimes both in them & their society, but until it works & be effective, what should be done with the ones who commit such crimes everyday ... ?

I di agree with you killing for what he has done? But THIS is not the subject!! What is EFFECTIVE is that the intelectuals in all over the world should work on human peace and also on HUMAN RIGHTS in case to let people of the world become as aware as they will be able to prevent of having such a rulers.
Otherwise, we have to learn that a society (like old aged communities) must be organized and ruled (which is not the word that I mean and want to say) by a group of people who will cooperate and also work together. Something like "SHORAA".
ONE, as a sigle person is not able to work for milliions, while a committi or a council or....is able to work for the people of its region.
In other words, cases like SADDAM, are becoming SADDAM, through their people. So as guilty as SADAAM is, guilty its people are.
We have to fight against OPPRESSION,k unless what happens to us is excused!!!
