Hallo Chackavak,
This is phantastically interesting to hear that you used to light up fires, dance around and even jump through it. Because we do - or did - the same. Who knows, this is possibly part of our common indo- european heritage.
Don't worry about the firecrackers. They will not be able to kill totally this ancient custom.
Forget about lighting up a fire in your city garden or in the street. But why not in a football stadion or on a very big plaza? Maybe one day your municipality might organize such a fire .
Make a petition to that effect!
