Entry 75

" A witness, Iraqi Judge Munir Haddad ... said Hussein appeared 'totally oblivious to what was going on around him. I was very surprised. He was not afraid of death.' ... But Munir Haddad's description of Hussein's demeanor before his execution contrasts markedly with another witness, Iraqi national security adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie. ' He was a broken man,' al-Rubaie said. 'He was afraid. You could see fear in his face.' ...

During the time I was watching him standing still at the gallows, being surrounded by the masked executioners & listening to one of them describing the process of his execution, I was wondering what was running through his mind ... I remembered what I had heard about "Marie Antoinette", the Queen of France ...

On October 16, 1793 while she was being taken to be guillotined, she was looking for some gloves to be matched with her clothes !!!
When one becomes nothing except "POWER", they can never think of "DEATH" ...

Hallo, hallo, hi, hi,

Regarding Saddam, I would not be astonished that he was afraid to die. Everybody does. And it is always easier to have other people killed than being faced with your own death.

As to Marie-Antoinette, she has been a kind of glamour girl through all her life becoming adult only at the revolution when things turned sour.

At her trial she showed real greatness. When she was accused by one of those professional liars to have had incestuous relations with her son, she did not answer at first. When she was explicitly invited to comment she said those words that went down to history and showed that she had greatness:

"Je n'ai pas répondu c'est que la nature elle-même refuse de répondre à une telle accusation faite à une mère".

Well in my openion he was hanged for the wrong reasons & yet I found his execution rather stupid. I didn see fear in his eyes & he did die not ruining the powerful dictator image he had built for himself. He was no stranger to fear, death, execution...

Dear Dr O2
I do agree with you that there was no fear in him, but I can't understand how he really felt at that time & what was happening inside him: what he was thinking of ... or whether he was thinking or not ...
